Police Release Yankuba Touray, Jahumpa Ceesay on Bail

Police on Wednesday evening granted bail to Yankuba Touray and Fatoumata Jahumpa Ceesay who were arrested and placed under custody shortly after they were discharged by the court.

The source said: “The duo has been released on bail this evening on conditions that they deposit their travel documents (ID card and Passport), two Gambian sureties each shall swear to an affidavit of means, enter a bail bond of one million dalasis. They have been served with an indictment to appear at the High Court on the 16^th April 2019.”

Touray was the Minister of Local Government and Lands during the reign of the defunct AFPRC whereas Ceesay has held diverse portfolios including being the Speaker of the National Assembly of The Gambia. 

It would be recalled that the two were discharged by the Kanifing Magistrates Court on the same day the police arrested and place them under custody. They were charged for interference with a potential witness of the Truth, Reconciliation and Reparations Commission and both denied wrongdoing.
